OPEN PLAY

Times for open play are listed in Hours & Location.  Please remember that these times may be subject to seasonal changes.  Also, green maintenance and scheduled tournaments have precedence over open play.  Telephone fan-outs, e-mail messages, and website announcements (in News & Events) will keep members advised regarding such changes.

On Thursday mornings, women members have priority for the green and the clubhouse.  Men may use rinks not in use (and likely the restroom), but it might be advisable for them to play on other weekdays.

Play or practice outside scheduled times is permissible.  Members may obtain a key to access the green, the playing equipment shed, and the clubhouse for these purposes.  (Keys available from Duncan Locke.)

JITNEYS

Five jitneys are scheduled during the bowling season, the first four planned on statutory holidays (Victoria Day, Canada Day, BC Day, and Labour Day).  The final  jitney marks the official end of the bowling season at the end of September or early October.  Open play, however, continues beyond, weather permitting.

Jitneys are usually variations on the game of bowls with emphasis on fun and enjoyment.  A social component is usually a part of each event in the form of a potluck lunch, an organized lunch, or a brown-bag lunch.

SUNDAY FUN DAYS

Sunday Fun Days are planned mainly for enjoyment, but they also include an element of competition with prizes awarded in various categories.  Again, sociability is an important aspect of each event.  They are held once per month in June, July, and August.

EVENING PAIRS' LEAGUE 2010

The evening pairs' league is open to all members, but registration is limited to a maximum of 32 participants (first come; first served).  The competition comprises weekly play on Tuesday evenings at 6pm over two eight-weeks sessions -- May 6-June 24 or July 8-August 26.  Pre-registration is required. Contact Duncan Locke*  by phone or email.  Players may register for the spring session, the summer session, or both.

NOTE: Start time is 6:00 pm, except for May 6 and July 8 at 5:30 p.m. to facilitate the drawing of teams.  NO DRAW IS SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 15 (2-Bowl 6-Pack).

Protocol and rules for play:

     1.  The Laws of the Sport of Bowls 4th Edition, 2007, will apply (except as noted below).
2.  All games will be to 14 ends and played to completion (unless the score is out of reach).
3.  Score cards will be distributed just prior to 6:00 p.m. As a courtesy to others, players are requested not to begin play before receiving score cards.
4.  Burnt ends are played ends and are not replayed.
5.  A tie after the final end will stand.
6.  If a team is late, the opponent will score one point for each five minutes or portion thereof from six o’clock (the starter will rule).
7.  Spares** will be provided by the games chair on request and will always spare in lead position.  Should both members of a team not be able to compete, re-scheduling is at the convenience of the opposing team and the games chair must be advised in advance.  Games not played prior to the final draw for each half-season will be forfeited by the team requesting the change.  (NOTE: players may request spares a maximum of four times, or twice if playing a half-season.  Special circumstances will be considered by the games chairs.)
8.  Scoring will be recorded on the cards provided, which will be signed and submitted to the starter at the end of each game (or at the next draw if re-scheduled).  Cumulative results will be posted in the clubhouse.  Scoreboards will be used, as well – many are interested in the progress of games on other rinks.
9.  Should a player be unable to complete the season (or a half-season), a ruling will be made by the games chairs.

Scoring will be 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 for a loss.  Cumulative results will be posted in the clubhouse.

Trophies will be awarded to the winning teams of the two half-seasons.  (NOTE:  Should a tie exist at the end of a half-season, a play-off will be necessary, as each half-season will not have been a complete round robin.)

* Please address all questions or enquiries to:  Duncan Locke 250-748-6542 or duncanofduncan@shaw.ca

** Teams/players do not arrange spares.  Spares must be arranged by request to Duncan (250-748-6542 or duncanofduncan@shaw.ca) at least a day in advance.

EVENING SINGLES' LEAGUE 2010

The evening singles' league is open to all members, but registration is limited to sixteen participants (first come; first served).  The competition comprises weekly play on Thursdays commencing on May 4 at 6:00 p.m.  Pre-registration is required.  Contact Duncan Locke* by phone or email.  Players may register for the full season or for the spring session (May 4-June 29) or the summer session (July 6-August 24).

Protocol and rules for play:

     1.  The Laws of the Sport of Bowls 4th Edition, 2007, will apply (except as noted herein).
2.  All games will be to 15 points within a 90-minute time frame from a bell start at 6:00 p.m.
3 At the 90-minute bell, games still in progress will complete the end in play.  Should a tie then exist, it will not be broken.
4.  Burnt ends are not replayed.
5.  If a player is late, the opponent will score one point for each five minutes or portion thereof (as per the starter’s clock).
6.  As a courtesy to others, participants are discouraged from re-scheduling games unless it is absolutely necessary; however, a player may
re-schedule two games per half season (beyond which matches will be forfeited).  Scoring will be recorded on the cards provided, which will be signed and submitted to the starter at the completion of each draw (or at the next draw if re-scheduled).  Scoreboards will be used, as well – many are interested in the progress of games on other rinks.
8.  Should a player be unable to complete a half-season, a ruling will be made by the games chairs.
9.  Cumulative scoring will be based on 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and 0 for a loss.  Results will be posted in the clubhouse.

The league trophy will be awarded to the player with the highest points total in the round robin over  the complete season.  Should a tie exist, the winner of the head-to-head match is the overall winner.  Should head-to-head not break a three-way tie, a play-off will be necessary.

* Please address all questions or enquiries to:  Duncan Locke 250-748-6542 or duncanofduncan@shaw.ca
